These were printed in large quantities since the early1940's , were sold to young post -war families (along with The Book of Knowledge encyclopaedias) and were placed in many kindergarten & grammar school rooms and libraries. Later edition sets had more volumes. The first two volumes are often the most used, worn or abused ,so, they are at premium when found in better condition. I loved my 1947 set to "death' as a child and would like nothing better than to find a nice set for my grandchildren - today!
