: I doubt Conrad knew much on the subject, as he states in the book that women live in their own beautiful world, but I saw the three women, the Aunt, the African, and Kurtz's Intended, as the three female archetypes, -creator, mother-nurturer, and crone-destroyer. Marlow's aunt in a sense brings him into the story, as the creator. The African priestess (of whatever her title was) was trying to protect Kutz, like a mother would do, and Kurtz's intended, who surfaces last, and only after Kurtz has died, is the destroyer of it all: She brings about the end of the story, the end of the Truth (for it is she that Marlow LIES to) and the end, finally, of the memory of Kurtz himself. : It's kind of a long shot, but if you read up on it, it makes sense.
